Newport Gwent Dragons started life after coach Paul Turner with a 30-22 Magners League triumph victory over rivals Edinburgh at Rodney Parade.
Turner's departure was officially confirmed earlier this week and the Welsh region soon found themselves behind when a smart kick by Tim Visser allowed fellow wing Lee Jones to touch down for a try which Chris Paterson converted.
The Dragons responded when Jason Tovey switched direction cleverly to set up a score for prop Phil Price, although Paterson soon kicked a penalty to extend Edinburgh's lead to 10-5.
But the hosts then hit their stride and produced three quick tries before the interval to take a stranglehold on the match.
Their spree started when Will Harries put Tovey over and Lewis Evans was the next man to touch down after a strong burst.
Tovey converted that try and a kick by Harries put Ashley Smith over to make it 22-10 at half-time.
Tovey stretched the Dragons' advantage with a penalty after 45 minutes and flanker Andrew Coombs burst away from a maul after a lineout for their fifth try of the match.
Edinburgh hit back with a break by Visser and, after several phases close to the home line, it was Visser who fought his way over for a try.
In the closing stages Geoff Cross forced his way over for the third Edinburgh try which Paterson converted but it was not enough to claim a losing bonus point.
