Cardiff Blues are back on top of Pool One in the European Challenge Cup after an incredible 104-12 victory over Italian part-timers Rovigo at the Arms Park.
The Welsh side scored 16 tries, converting 12 of them, as they registered their record European score and winning margin.
Lloyd Williams opened the scoring in the seventh minute, his first of two tries on the night, while Richard Smith crossed three times and Ellis Jenkins also touched down twice.
Josh Turnbull, Rhys Patchell, Sam Hobbs, Cory Allen, Macauley Cook, Scott Andrews, Kristian
Dacey, Gareth Davies and Lewis Jones also scored, as the visitors’ defence was ripped to shreds again and again.
However, Rovigo also showed plenty of spirit and, having trailed 73-0 after 50 minutes, they scored tries in the last half-hour through Matteo Maran and Francesco Menon.
However, the torrent of tries continued at the other end and scores in the last two minutes from Davies and Jones took Cardiff into three figures.
Gareth Anscombe kicked seven conversions for the hosts and Davies booted five while Stefan Basson converted one of the Rovigo scores.
The Blues are five points clear at the top of the table ahead of Saturday’s fixtures and will continue their quest for a quarter-final place at Grenoble next weekend.
