Castleford were unable to register a point as Wigan ran out 28-0 winners in their Super League encounter on Friday.
Though Wigan did not concede throughout the match, the home side were made to work hard for their win, and it was only in the final quarter of the game that they eased to victory.
Tries from Joe Burgess, Michael McIlorum, Dan Sarginson and Dom Manfredi as well as 12 points from the boot of Man of the Match Matty Smith gave the Warriors a much-needed victory in front of the home support.
It was a heated affair as tempers flared throughout the encounter, with a slippery ball adding to the frustration of both teams thanks to an evening of rain at DW Stadium.
Smith was given a chance to open the scoring early in the game when Tigers were penalised inside their own half, and Smith duly converted the opportunity for a 2-0 lead to the home side. When Castleford stripped the ball illegally shortly thereafter, Smith stepped up to extend his side's lead with just over a quarter of the game gone.
With eight minutes remaining in the first half Burgess scored the first try of the match after a superb kick from Smith, who added the extras for a 10-0 lead, which his side took into the break.
After yet another heated exchanged between the two teams, Smith was given a chance to open the scoring in the second half and he made no mistake with the kick for two more points - though he missed with his next kick, which came almost directly off the next play.
With 15 minutes remaining it was a slender 12-0 lead for the home side, but a McIlorum try and conversion from Smith took the lead to 18 points and the game away from the visiting Tigers.
Wigan were not done, though, as they added a further two tries, one from Sarginson who used his pace, and another from Manfredi who used skill for an individual score to take his side to a 28-0 win over the visiting Castleford side.
