Widnes ran in seven tries to hammer Castleford 40-10 at the Stobart Stadium and claw their way off the bottom of the Super League.
Stefan Marsh, Frank Winterstein and Ben Davies all crossed to effectively end the game before half time, and further scores from Paul McShane, Joe Mellor, Eamon O'Carroll and Patrick Ah Van piled on the misery for the Tigers.
Less than five minutes were on the clock when Marsh glided through a gap from close-range to open the scoring - the visitors hitting back quickly with Nick Youngquest's sixth try in seven games.
Parity was short-lived as Winterstein used his considerable force to charge over through a pair of tacklers, and Jon Clarke's inside pass for Davies ensured an 18-4 half-time lead for the hosts.
McShane was next to breach the Tigers whitewash with a committed charge early in the second period, and the Vikings threatened to run riot when Mellor scampered in in the 48th minute.
Stuart Jones finished smartly to round off a rare Tigers foray into enemy territory three minutes before the hour, but their defence was exposed again when O'Carroll pounced on a grubber kick for a try on his debut.
There was still time for Ah Van to add to his four conversions with a try of his own - collecting an inside ball off the touchline to fall over the line and round off a promising night for Denis Betts' men.
