Wildcats v City Reds: Teams

New Wakefield signing Paul Cooke is set to make his Wildcats debut against the Salford City Reds.

The former England international has re-joined former boss John Kear on a short-term contract until the end of the season after Hull KR granted him a release.

The 28-year-old is due to train with his new team-mates on Saturday and, despite not playing for several weeks, Cooke believes he will be fine to take on the City Reds.

"It's difficult to keep as fit as you can with not playing rugby and not getting the bumps and bruises but I'm quite aerobically fit and physically fit so hopefully that will stand me in good stead for the weekend," he said.

Stand-off Ben Jeffries is still out of action with a leg injury, adding to the chances of Cooke being included in the action at some stage, which Kear believes to be very likely.

Kear told the club's official website: "I expect that Cooke will get a chance to play in this game but I'll make a decision about that closer to the kick off time."

While Cooke's old Hull half-back partner Danny Brough is also named in Kear's side, the scrum-half is poised to complete a move to Huddersfield.

Both hooker James Davey and prop Ben Gledhill are retained by Kear after the pair were included in the squad which played at Hull KR a week ago.

Salford will be attempting to claim their second away game on the bounce after last Sunday's 26-22 victory over Harlequins.

The Reds are boosted by the return of prop Ray Cashmere, who has missed the last four matches with a calf injury.

Utility back Steffan Ratchford is set for a recall in the absence of the suspended Jeremy Smith.
