A rather disappointing turn out for this recognised Derby trial and the vote goes to Lateen Sails with Illustrator the obvious danger ahead of Orange Touch. The Godolphin stable has been slow to find its feet so far this term and Lateen Sails proved disappointing when finishing last of 20 in the 2,000 Guineas on his seasonal reappearance. However, there were reasons for his poor effort in that he was drawn widest of all and this inexperienced colt could never land a blow over a trip that is likely to be on the sharp side for the son of Elmaamul. With the extra quarter of a mile expected to be in his favour, the three-year-old can start to fulfill the undoubted promise of his juvenile form when an impressive winner of his sole start in a Newmarket maiden when in training with Henry Cecil. Illustrator is still a maiden but showed useful form to be placed in all three juvenile starts and represents a bang in-form yard. There should be plenty of improvement still to come from this beautifully bred son of sadler's Wells and he rates a big threat. Orange Touch showed respectable juvenile form and landed a Sandown maiden but had his limitations exposed in the Classic Trial on a return visit to the Esher course last month and needs to find more at this level.
