In depth

Verdict

A very competitive showcase handicap with several holing realistic chances. Kepler is sure to be of interest on his return to a track where he goes particularly well at. He is twice a winner here in good races over a mile but is stepping into unchartered territory here and with his stamina in question may be worth taking on. Mi Odds is a seven time winner on this type of surface over this kind of trip and has won his last two starts. However that was in claiming company and he will find this far more competitive. Mr Gisby was a convincing winner over this course and distance in maiden company last time and although he will find it more difficult to dominate here, is certainly not without a chance. Spitfire Bob represents an in-form stable but again will find this much more competitive than the weak handicap he won last time. Herodotus is the best of these but is unproven on the surface which has to be a big question mark and it may be worth siding with Kylkenny. The selection has risen in the weights but goes extremely well on this surface and is coming off back-to-back wins at Southwell. He should be able to sit behind an assured strong pace and have the race run to suit.
