Present Glory can prove the answer to a tricky opening race, with Four Melons, Ironside and Roman Rebel just three others with claims. Present Glory made a pleasing debut over hurdles at Fontwell in March, staying on well at the finish, and although another furlong or two would not come amiss, Colin Tinkler's charge is on the short-list and could well oblige, as his stamina will come into play in the testing ground. Four Melons was pulled up at Ayr in February and will be better for the run, but even so, his hold-up style of running means that he will have a lot to do if the selection kicks on sooner rather than later. Ironside makes the journey up from Henry Daly's base, and has a chance on the form that he showed when making the odds-on Blushing Bull pull out all the stops at Uttoxeter in January. The ground was very testing that day and he will appreciate the ever so slightly better conditions here. He needs to brush up his jumping though, and might treat the obstacles with more respect when sent chasing eventually. Roman Rebel was totally unfancied when finishing second here in January and has a modicum of ability, and may reach the frame again today, but Present Glory has caught the eye in the past and is the pick.
