        Verdict

        Numero Due gets a narrow vote over Toldo, with Finalmente and Spanish Ridge also worth noting. Numero Due sets the standard here after chasing home Greenwich Meantime at Ripon a fortnight ago. The latter has since run a big race in the Chester Cup to boos the form, and it is hoped that George Moore's charge can add to last season's success over the course-and-distance. Stablemate Toldo was not too far behind the selection at Ripon but looks held on form. Nevertheless he adds another string to the stable's bow and is worth considering for a place at least. Finalmente showed that he has stamina when trying 14 furlongs for the first time at Yarmouth on his final outing last year, and although likely to need the run, he should be followed. John Dunlop has the knack of finding openings for his one-pacers and Spanish Ridge does not appear too badly treated. The form of Numero Due stands out though and he is the one to beat.
