As per usual in this type of event, there is little public evidence to work on and the market will provide further illumination for the punter. However, Dark Character has already shown enough to suggest a race of this nature is well within his compass and sets the standard. Alan Swinbank's charge was the subject of strong market support on his debut at Ayr last month and shaped like a surefire future winner when narrowly denied with the front pair well clear of the third. With the experience behind him, the son of Reprimand should be capable of further progress and looks the one to beat. High Fields was weak in the market on his debut at Wetherby earlier this month but ran above expectations to finish third and can improve. Croc En Bouche and Salhood are newcomers who make plenty of appeal on breeding and should be noted in the exchanges.
