The will to win seems to have deserted all of these characters, so only a minimum stakes investment with FIRE UP THE BAND is recommended. Woodcote is best-in at the weights, so has to be a serious threat, while Grimes Faith is an old rival of the selection and completes the shortlist. The last named has cost his supporters dearly of late and many fingers may still be smarting from each of his last two outings. Sent off as a well-backed favourite, the six-year-old fluffed his lines on each occasion and his ability to stand up to the Southwell kickback has to be a concern. Woodcote drops to this grade for the first time and, as he still commands a rating of 74, he has a live chance on these terms. However, this is his course debut, so he also needs to prove the surface holds no fears fro him. Therefore, it can pay to take a chance with previous c&d winner Fire Up The Band, whose best efforts have come when he has made all the running. It's almost sad to see this former Group 3 winner plying his trade at this level. Still, Fire Up The Band is doing what he was bred for and a chance is taken that he still has the speed to hold his unreliable rivals at bay.
