Verdict
This could rest between Syviesbuck, Major Benefit and San Peire, with the latter taken to oblige. Howard Johnson's gelding is making his chasing debut following some decent hurdles performances. He found the trip a shade on the short side here on his last two outings and will appreciate every yard of this three miles and three furlongs. He rarely puts a foot wrong over the smaller obstacles so he should be capable of handling these fences. Sylviesbuck on the other hand does put in the odd dodgy jump, and even when successful over course and distance he tried to refuse at the last. His trainer describes him as a big baby, but he can be given a chance if his mind is totally on the job. However the biggest threat to the selection has to be Major Benefit who ran a blinder to finish just four lengths behind Koquelicot at Uttoxeter last time, a repeat of that effort and he will be very hard to beat. So Major Benefit has the experience over the larger obstacles but we will take a chance on the chasing debutante San Peire.
