Courageous Duke is conceivably still well handicapped and, in a tricky contest, can follow up his recent Newmarket success. Having incurred a six-pound penalty for that win, he could still be well-weighted if you can take literally his beating of subsequent Listed and Royal Hunt Cup winner, Macadamia, at Newmarket last October. It is also a positive that Kieren Fallon, who rode him at Windsor, has opted to maintain the partnership. Many others have to be considered, though. Samhari ran a blinder in a first-time visor to finish fourth in a valuable handicap at the Royal Meeting and, with the visor left on, should go well again. That was his first run in nearly eight months. Albuhera has not won since 2001 but is now back on a winning mark. The lightly-raced Shot To Fame owes his mark to finishing third in last year's Britannia Stakes from a pound lower mark than today, while Broadway Score is still three pounds higher than for his valuable Kempton victory in April. Highland Reel also runs under a penalty following an easy Salisbury win, while Krugerrand has been raised only six pounds for an easy York win. From the in-form Mark Johnston stable, the improving three-year-old Nuit Sombre also cannot be ruled out of matters. Once again, it's tricky, and Courageous Duke is only a tentative selection.
