Quite how a horse who has been beaten by 100 lengths on his three starts to date can start as the likely favourite is baffling, but nevertheless Philanthropist gets the vote to beat this bunch of trees, with Southern Classic the only viable alternative. Evan Williams' runner has the visor on for the first time today after showing little interest in racing in his runs in much better company so far. His 180,000 guineas price tag is starting to look like a deal done by Del Boy Trotter and if he cannot win this contest then there may be little hope for him. The stable are in fair enough form and he gets the nod. Southern Classic hasn't gone on since making a pleasing bumper debut in a race won by Sir Jimmy Shand but he may be more at home in this better ground and Emma Lavelle's charge could go well, although conceding weight all round makes life tricky. Peter's Two Fun has plenty of experience over timber but one win in 42 races hardly sets the pulse racing. Blueland and Cougar cannot be ruled out but both will need to step up on previous efforts, and so we will return to Philanthropist to do the humane thing and draw racing to a close with a win.
