In depth

Verdict

A wide open three year old handicap to solve here and Hawk House is a tentative selection to land it for the Barry Hills stable. A whole host of dangers could be listed but on recent form Politeia, Addikt and Always Certain are others that rate high on the shortlist. Three maiden outings last season yielded a rating of 67 for the selection who was immediately stepped up to this trip for his seasonal debut. Well backed and prominent for most of the journey, connections clearly did not have stamina reservations and when tackling handicap company the ground was unsuitably soft. Plenty promise can be drawn from his last outing at Sandown where he did not enjoy the clearest of passages. When set to mount his challenge his momentum was halted and on that stiff climb uphill at Sandown he could never peg the leaders back. Should he get into a rhythm on the pace, he could take a lot of beating. Politiea was heavily supported to land a Windsor maiden last time but never travelled in that event. Her best career effort was two starts back at the same venue when the ground on softer than the ground which she will encounter today. Addikt running last time is best forgotten. Drawn wide, his jockey failed to obtain an inside berth and as a consequence was carried wide for much of the journey. He is closely matched with Politiea on their Windsor running behind Vineyard. Always Certain relished the step up in trip on his penultimate start but was always struggling on his return to the Roodee last time. Nordic Commander and the handicap debutant Lilburn are others that are worth considering given connections but Hawk House has showed lots of promise at Sandown and can land it.
