In a competitive staying handicap to end the day, Woodyates get a tentative vote ahead of Sea Plume, with Man The Gate and The Varlet others to consider. Willie Musson's filly won this race two years ago, and might well have won her most recent race at Nottingham, but for a rather weak finish ridden by Lisa Jones, eventually losing out by a short ahead. Kieren Fallon takes over this evening, and that could just be enough to see her go one better here. Sea Plume is a lightly raced filly and Lady Herries' four-year-old was doing her best work at the finish when fourth at Nottingham on her reappearance, so is likely to fare even better over this further trip. Man The Gate is another who should improve for this extra distance, having shaped well over a mile and a half at Newmarket last time, while The Varlet, the only three-year-old in the race, has more scope than most and it would be no surprise to see Marcus Tregoning's charge thereabouts at the finish.
