Compton Bolter was narrowly beaten in this 12 months ago and has to be respected in his attempt to go one better but may struggle to concede weight all round and a chance is taken with Helm Bank, who is preferred to St Petersburg. The last mentioned has improved on turf since last running on this surface and cannot be discounted although a doubt remains whether he will stay today's trip. There should be no problems on that score with the Michael Jarvis-trained Zayn Zen or Lord Mayor, although both need to improve on recent evidence to trouble the judge. Amanda Perrett's Colisay is a consistent performer on turf but is not certain to be at home on this surface, while Boule d'Or is becoming frustrating. A market move for Kew Green would be of interest, while Kandidate may do better back on a surface on which he excelled earlier in the year. A chance is taken though with Helm Bank, who disappointed on his only previous start on the Polytrack and is strictly held by Moayed on running run, but has since left Gerard Butler's stable to join John Dunlop. The booking of the in-form Eddie Ahern takes the eye and Helm Bank gets the vote at a decent price.
