In depth

Verdict

Koquelicot gets the nod here ahead of Ulusaba, Commanche War Paint and Carryonharry. Koquelicot has been brought along steadily this winter and did nothing wrong when second to Grand National hope Longshanks over the course and distance last month. The Philip Hobbs-trained seven-year-old had Ulusaba behind that day, and on today's terms he should just about come out on top again. He does seem to prefer a sharp right-handed course and in addition, Ulusaba's style of come from the back steadily type of racing will once again be in the selection's favour. Commanche War Paint takes a big drop back in trip and will find this vastly different than Cheltenham, while Carryonharry will need to jump better than behind Colourful Life at Doncaster. Koquelicot holds an entry in the Kim Muir, but whether he goes there remains to be seen. He has plenty going for him today though and is the one to beat.
