In depth

Verdict

Henndey is a speculative choice to beat the likely favourite Rangoon, with Doctorate, Kensington and Flying Adored others to note. If Rangoon had been given a kinder draw, we would have been a bit keener on his chance of getting recent losses incurred over the course and distance back, but in addition he was one of the first to come off the bridle a fortnight ago and is worth taking on. We shall do so with Henndey, who gave the odds-on Etmaam a bit of a fright at Newcastle last time. The son of Indian Ridge came there to win his race a furlong out but was basically beaten by a better horse, and although the third home is no useful yardstick, Henndey can only improve. He has also proven that he can handle rain-softened ground and with a fair draw in nine he should go well. Kensington and Flying Adored will no doubt benefit from this return to action and so Doctorate may be more of a danger. Ninth to the useful Gatwick at Doncaster last month, he should have more to offer now and can reach the frame at least. For the winner though, we return to Henndey to topple the favourite.
