Nivernais looks on a very good mark for his seasonal debut and just gets the verdict over Golden Dixie, Najeebon and Cape St Vincent. Henry Candy's gelding was a very game winner of a competitive handicap at Windsor on his penultimate outing last season. He wasn't disgraced under a penalty next time when only a length behind Thurlestone Rock and as he has gone well fresh in the past he looks the one to beat. Golden Dixie has been going well on the all-weather this winter and doesn't look harshly treated on his return to the turf. Meanwhile Najeebon must also be considered a threat on the pick of last seasons handicap form. The main threat though could be Cape St Vincent, a consistent performer on every surface who put in another sterling effort when chasing home Cheese 'n Biscuits at Lingfield in February. So a very tricky contest to assess, but Nivernais has been given every chance by the handicapper and gets our vote.
