In depth

Verdict

No surprise if David Loder's newcomer Amandus, an expensive Danehill half-brother to several winners, proved good enough to make a winning debut in an ordinary heat. Rahaf shaped as though he would benefit from the outing when a close Newcastle second on his debut last week while Midnight Song is another who should leave his debut form behind. Surbiton, a promising third in a hot Newbury maiden, is another to consider.
