held up, always in rear
held up in touch, ridden over 3f out, chased winner over 1f out, no impression final furlong
slowly into stride, soon behind
held up, headway and not clear run over 2f out, kept on one pace
close up, ridden over 3f out, weakened over 2f out
in touch, ridden over 3f out, kept on one pace
mid-division, ridden over 3f out, effort over 2f out, weakened over 1f out
always prominent, led over 2f out, ridden out
mid-division, ridden over 3f out, not trouble leaders
slowly into stride, towards rear, never nearer
mid-division, ridden and wide over 3f out, effort over 2f out, soon weakened
soon led, ridden and headed over 2f out, kept on one pace
chased leaders, ridden and outpaced over 2f out, stayed on final furlong
This is an absolute nightmare of a race and one that could produce a winner at a fair price if past history of such events at Brighton is anything to go by. And a tentative vote goes to Absinther, who is in a definite minority as a previous winner of a race this season. Lyrical Way and Prince Domino are other who fit that profile and have to be given each way chances on the best of their form. While it remains to be seen if Rojabba, who has been kept very busy of late, will cope with a penalty even at this modest level. His win to runs ratio would suggest that he is a forlorn hope to add to his Yarmouth victory from last week and is not hard to overlook today. Therefore, a chance is taken with Absinther in the hope that he can reproduce the sort of form that saw him edge out Raybaan at Windsor in July. The selection is now 2lb lower in the handicap after some fair efforts in defeat and, with a good course record to his name, he gets a slender vote for glory today. Piquet also goes well her but is a frustrating horse to follow and, like almost every horse in the field, is for the brave only.
