Verdict

Intimate Friend cannot be opposed in this Brighton maiden. Her debut fourth, when in need of the run, to Bay Tree at Newbury has already been boosted by that filly going on to win in Listed company. She will not be available at a fancy price, but all things being equal, ought to win. Badhbh stepped up on her debut run to finish a running-on sixth next time, and the step up to seven could bring further improvement for this daughter of Deploy. Signora Pagnettiera failed to reach her reserve when sent to the sails and it is unlikely that she is one of Mick Channon's leading lights. Taminoula will stay even further in time and showed she is going the right way when third at Lingfield last time, a race from which the fourth has come out and won since. Timely Twist was well beaten in a decent Newbury maiden on her racecourse debut and, although she should have derived a lot of benefit from that outing, more will be needed now. The field is completed by Ed Dunlop's Trompe l'Oeil, who showed promise on her debut when green but was then surprisingly dropped back to five furlongs for her next run. She finished unplaced that time but, stepped up to seven furlongs now, she should show in a better light, particularly given that there is middle-distance blood on the dam's side of her likeable breeding. Overall, though, Intimate Friend can prove the favourite-backers' pal.
