In depth

Verdict

Signatory may have caught a tartar when second in a hot maiden at Newmarket on his debut and his strongly fancied to go one better; there are some interesting unexposed types in the line-up, however, and Obvious Charm and Heart Stopping also make some appeal. John Gosden's colt, a $600,000 dollar half-brother to several winners in the States, was quietly fancied for his debut at the Craven meeting, when he cut out the running before being headed inside the final furlong by the well-regarded Top Gear. That looks like smart form, and Signatory can win this before going on to better things. That said, there are some interesting horses in opposition here, not least the Roger Charlton newcomer, Obvious Charm. This filly is related to several middle distance winners, hails from a yard with an excellent strike rate at the track which is also running into form, so it would be no surprise to see her go well. Heart Stopping shaped nicely when seventh in a big field at Newmarket on her sole start last year and Barry Hills' filly also makes appeal, although the likes of Welling and Kingdom Of Dreams could easily fare better than they have shown far. However, Signatory went down in many a notebook after his debut ruin and is hard to oppose here.
