Verdict

A decent turnout for this valuable Group 2 event and this appears a good opportunity for Sights On Gold to follow up a recent Sandown victory while Princely Venture, Royal Stamp and Delsarte are others to consider. A smart performer with Dermot Weld last season when notching a Listed win at Leopardstown, the four-year-old was subsequently purchased by Godolphin and the son of Indian Ridge repaid their faith when landing the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard at Sandown in late May. The form looks solid with the third subsequently landing the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot and Sights On Gold should prove too strong for his rivals under Frankie Dettori. Princely Venture is a lightly raced sort who remains well regarded by his astute handler and the four-year-old looked as good as ever when landing a conditions event at Goodwood on his belated return in May. Open to further progress, the four-year-old should make his presence felt at this level. Royal Stamp made a pleasing comeback in a Sandown Listed contest last time and is another who rates a big danger although he may ideally prefer further. Delsarte is a progressive type who ran well when runner-up in a Group 2 at Royal Ascot but had his limitations exposed against his elders in the Eclipse and may have to settle for minor honours behind Sights On Gold who has solid credentials.
