Verdict
The consistent GOLDEN DESERT is selected ahead of Hazzard Country and Carcinetto, while each-way support for Compton's Eleven would be interesting. The last-named is an uncomplicated ride for an inexperienced jockey and likely to be suited by the way the race unfolds. He is closely matched with King's Bastion from their earlier encounter this season, so both should be monitored closely for signs of interest. Carcinetto has raced ostensibly over sprint distances but does stay seven furlongs at a push. However, he also has a career highest mark to cope with and needs to register a performance from the top drawer to prevail. Hazzard County teams up with a rider that has won this race in the past, so it is safe to assume the instructions will be followed to the letter. David Simcock's charge doesn't have too many miles on the clock and is a likely contender to at least make the frame. However, a tentative preference goes the way of Golden Desert, who has performed with credit each time he has raced at Ascot in the past. Seven furlongs is not a problem for the Terry Mills-trained selection and, with Katie Walsh making the trip over to take the reins, there are solid foundations for us to expect a big run for the money.
