Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will miss the remainder of the NFL season due to year-ending surgery.
Prescott will undergo surgery on his hamstring injury on Wednesday, said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones during his appearance on 105.3 The Fan.
Prescott has been out since sustaining the injury during Dallas' defeat to the Atlanta Falcons in week nine, with Cooper Rush stepping in as his back-up.
"He'll have [surgery] there in New York," Jones said. "He had a good visit last night [Monday] and he wants to do that there, and he's got great medical doctors up there. His prognosis is wonderful, it just means we're not going to have him the rest of the year."
Rush finished 13 of 23 passing for just 45 yards as the Cowboys suffered a 34-6 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, with Trey Lance also seeing time under center.
"Cooper has shown that he has the capability to compete and win in games," Jones continued. "He does give us our best chance. Frankly, that was really an out-of-character game for him based on what we've seen and we know about Cooper."
Dallas, who lost star edge rusher Micah Parsons for four games earlier this season, currently sit 3-6 and third in the NFC East having lost four straight games.
Surgery means Prescott will finish his campaign with 1,978 passing yards and 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions after signing a record-breaking four-year $240m extension in September.
