New York Giants owner John Mara has reiterated his desire to sign Odell Beckham Jr to a long-term deal but insists there is no "sense of urgency".
Beckham Jr has been present at voluntary team work-outs this spring after a frantic spell of speculation that had him linked with a move away from MetLife Stadium - multiple NFL sources claimed initial trade talks had taken place with the LA Rams.
The star wideout is set to make $8.5m this autumn as he enters the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, having been drafted 12th overall out of LSU in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Beckham Jr has been unequivocal in his desire for a deal that will almost certainly make him the highest-paid receiver in the NFL, but the Giants have been playing a very cool hand in their approach to negotiations.
Mara continued that theme while speaking at a United Way-sponsored gala in New York.
"I wouldn't say sense of urgency. The contract will get done when it's supposed to get done," the Giants owner said.
"I think that is the (general manager) Dave Gettleman line. I think I'm going to adopt that. All spring, all summer, as long as it takes.
"It's not the first contract negotiation we've ever had. It'll get done when it's supposed to get done."
Mara also reiterated that he was pleased to see Beckham Jr at camp as the 25-year-old looks to put an injury-hit 2017 season behind him.
He was sidelined for most of last season, playing four games after missing the season opener, only to suffer a fractured left ankle against the LA Chargers, meaning he finished with 25 catches for 302 yards and three touchdowns.
His previous three pro seasons saw him average 96 catches, 1,374 receiving yards and 11.7 touchdowns - while also showcasing his skills as one of the most dynamic offensive threats in the NFL.
The Giants drafted Saquon Barkley this year and with Stirling Shepherd and Evan Engram already on board, it looks to be one of the offenses to watch next season with Beckham Jr a key ingredient.
