Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles faces an uncertain future despite winning his Super Bowl LII shootout with Tom Brady on Sunday.
Foles went toe to toe with New England Patriots counterpart Brady in a thrilling 41-33 upset victory for the Eagles at the US Bank Stadium, ending the game as MVP after throwing for 373 yards and three touchdowns.
However, the 29-year-old is likely to find himself relegated to a backup role next season when the Eagles' first choice quarterback Carson Wentz recovers from the knee injury he suffered in December.
That setback thrust Foles into the starting role and after a shaky start, he improved steadily before producing a dazzling performance in the NFC Championship win over Minnesota and then leading the Eagles to glory in Minneapolis.
If he does revert to being a backup next season, he would be the first Super Bowl-winning quarterback not to have a starting spot since Trent Dilfer, who was cut by the Baltimore Ravens after their 2000 Super Bowl win.
Speaking on Monday, he said: "I'm not really worried about my future right now. Staying in the moment."
For now, the Texan is basking in his success having almost walked away from the game two years ago.
"About a couple of years ago, there was a time where I was thinking about hanging up the cleats," he said.
"And I think as people, we deal with struggles. And that was a moment in my life where I thought about it, and I prayed about it.
"I'm grateful that I made the decision to come back and play."
Foles' performance on Sunday even included a touchdown when he turned receiver to collect a looping pass from tight end Trey Burton in a trick play nicknamed the "Philly Special".
"You never really know what it's going to be like when you're going into a Super Bowl. I've never been here before, so there are normal nerves," he added.
"You've got butterflies. It's a big game. It doesn't get any bigger than this, but I felt good. I felt calm.
"I wasn't worrying about the scoreboard. I wasn't worried about the timer," Foles added. "I was just playing ball. I think sometimes you start worrying about that so much, and it starts creeping into your brain. I was just playing."
