Jacksonville Jaguars roar with the kind of passion that any sports fan would expect from the football-mad state of Florida.

Jacksonville Jaguars

  • Established: 1993
  • Stadium: EverBank Field, Jacksonville, Florida
  • Team colours: Black, teal and gold
  • Head coach: Doug Marrone
  • Super Bowl Championships: 0
  • Conference Championships: 0
  • Division Championships: 2
  • Play-offs appearances: 6

They had one of the best starts of any expansion team in the league in the last five years of the 20th century when they reached the play-offs four times, including a sensational and surprising second season in 1996.

In one of the great shocks of the modern era, the Jaguars beat the team to beat that season, Denver Broncos, in the Divisional Round to set up an AFC Conference Championship game against New England Patriots.

The Pats were a step too far for the Jaguars, but the remarkable season was hailed as a huge success nonetheless with the franchise only two campaigns old.

Fans were treated to a record-setting run for the fledgling franchise as the momentum carried Jacksonville onto three more play-off berths, including two division championships, in 1997, 1998 and 1999.

For the second time in its first five years, Jacksonville reached the AFC Conference Championship game in 1999 and faced Tennessee Titans to challenge for a Super Bowl spot.

Alas, they were unable to break the duck against the Titans that year as they lost for a third time to Jeff Fisher's unit, who forced six turnovers and a safety in a 33-14 victory.

With the best record in the regular season, however, the city of Jacksonville had come to expect great things from its new NFL team.

They have reached the playoffs twice more in the 21st century, but have struggled to find that winning season form for 10 years, as of 2016.

The Floridians are an integral part of the NFL's continued promotion of the sport across the pond in the UK, having played in four fixtures of the NFL International Series at Wembley.

They are scheduled for a return to the UK in September 2017.

With Doug Marrone confirmed as the permanent head coach after Gus Bradley was fired last season, Jacksonville fans are eager for stability and a return to form for the Jags in 2017 and beyond.
