A flea-flicker is a trick play which is designed to fool the defence into thinking the offence are running the football, before the running back laterals the ball back to the quarterback to make a pass.

Brady's stunning 34-yard effort to Hogan helped the Patriots out to a 17-6 lead in the second quarter, a position of strength they would not relinquish for the rest of the contest.

It capped a particularly fine outing for Brady, who threw for a career postseason high of 384 yards as he booked a spot in a seventh Super Bowl, and a record ninth for the Patriots.

There they will face the Atlanta Falcons after they overcame the Green Bay packers 44-21 in the NFC Championship game, their final time playing at the Georgia Dome before moving into a new stadium.
