The Denver Broncos appointed Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph as head coach on Wednesday.
The Super Bowl 50 winners moved swiftly to fill the vacancy created by Gary Kubiak's departure last week due to health concerns.
Broncos chief John Elway confirmed Joseph's appointment on Twitter, posting a photograph of himself alongside the 44-year-old.
"It's official. Excited to announce Vance Joseph as head coach of the Denver Broncos," Elway wrote.
Reports said Joseph, who spent three seasons as defensive backs coach under Kubiak at the Houston Texans, has joined the Broncos on a four-year deal.
He had also been linked to a job with the San Diego Chargers but accepted an offer from Denver after a day of meetings on Tuesday.
Despite last season's Super Bowl triumph, Kubiak was unable to guide Denver to the play-offs this time around, with the Broncos ending the season with a 9-7 record.
Kubiak, 55, announced his retirement from coaching in a tearful press conference in Denver on January 2.
Kubiak was hospitalized briefly in October and missed coaching one game with what doctors called a "complex migraine condition" characterized by extreme fatigue and weakness.
In 2013 while Kubiak was head coach of the Houston Texans he collapsed during a game with what was diagnosed as a "mini stroke".
