'Black Monday' is the first day after the NFL season finishes and historically when coaches are fired from their respective teams.
This year, as Sky Sports NFL expert Neil Reynolds remarked, it was more a case of 'Sad Sunday', as Mike McCoy and Chip Kelly were sacked, while Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak resigned, citing the stress of the job as his reason for stepping down.
Jeff Fisher, Gus Bradley and Rex Ryan were all removed before the season's end, which opens up six opportunities for franchises to change direction.
Speaking on the Inside the Huddle podcast, Neil and Jeff Reinebold discussed the difficulty of getting a head coaching job and the six men now without work.
"Jeff Fisher - I can't see it, at least not for a while", said Jeff. "And he's now getting close to 60, which doesn't count in his favour.
"You look at Chip Kelly and think he might be a better fit for college football. He'll have a number of opportunities there, and I see that happening before another chance in the NFL comes along.
"I would think TV before Rex Ryan is a head coach again. He might want to be a defensive coordinator somewhere, but even his reputation on defence took a hit because of the way they played in Buffalo."
Ryan was head coach of the Buffalo Bills for two years, but was fired in week 16 after a 34-31 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
"Marcel Darius came out quite critical over Ryan's defence - said it was too complicated", Neil added. "Sammy Watkins said that the team needed discipline, and a coach players were afraid of, which isn't Ryan's style."
With Kubiak leaving his post, there is a possibility that the Super Bowl-winning head coach takes on a role as coordinator or positions coach.
As for McCoy and Bradley, Jeff believes both men need to take jobs as coordinators before another opportunity to lead a team presents itself.
"I don't think Bradley will get a job immediately, because he didn't have any success, and he's a defensive guy. It's always harder for a defensive specialist to get a second chance.
"For McCoy, maybe if he can resurrect himself as a coordinator he may get another shot."
