Former Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler had a tough night on his return to Mile High Stadium, failing to find open receivers as the Houston Texans lost 27-9.
Osweiler surprised the NFL when he rejected an offer to replace Peyton Manning as the starting quarterback in Denver, instead signing a four year, $72m deal with the Texans this off-season.
Quarterback was a problem position in Houston last year as head coach Bill O'Brien switched between Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer. It was Hoyer that eventually won the starting job, but after the Texans' 30-0 shutout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the play-off wildcard round, owner Bob McNair demanded that finding a franchise quarterback be the priority.
Since his arrival, Osweiler and the Texans have posted a respectable 4-3 record but the 25-year-old has already thrown for 200 yards or less in three games this season, an NFL record.
Against the Broncos, Osweiler was roundly booed when he came on the field and struggled to move the chains, posting just 46 passing yards in the first half.
There were marginal improvements as the game went on, but the majority of his numbers came after the game was already lost, as he finished with 131 yards from 41 pass attempts, the second fewest in NFL history for a QB with over 40 throws.
