Trevor Siemian has been confirmed as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
Siemian, a seventh round draft pick in 2015, has beaten off competition from rookie Paxton Lynch and free-agent signing Mark Sanchez to secure the role.
The 24-year-old has the daunting task of taking over from surefire future Hall of Fame inductee Peyton Manning, whose last game before retirement saw him lead the Broncos to Super Bowl 50 glory.
Kubiak said Siemian, who played his college football at Northwestern, had started to separate himself from Sanchez and Lynch in their pre-season games.
He started their most recent two games and engineered touchdown drives in both, completing 27 of his 43 passes for 285 yards with one touchdown pass and two interceptions.
His only regular season action as a rookie came on one play - a kneel down at the end of the first-half of their 34-27 defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"The thing about replacing Peyton - nobody is going to replace him," Siemian said.
"Those shoes are a little too big to fill. For me, I'm not reading too much into anything and trying to be the best team-mate and leader I can be."
