NFL star Tony Romo breaks back in game

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will miss the start of the season after breaking a bone in his back.

Romo missed 12 games last season with a shoulder injury he suffered in the early part of the season and then aggravated soon after his return to action.

His latest injury was suffered in the pre-season clash with the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday and, although coach Jason Garrett said there is no timetable for his recovery, various media reports expect Romo to miss between six and 10 weeks.

Garrett said: "We're going to monitor his condition day by day and we'll see how he feels going forward. There's no time frame when he's going to return."

In Romo's absence, rookie Dak Prescott could become the Cowboys starting quarterback when they open the regular season at home to the New York Giants on September 11.

Prescott, a fourth round pick out of Mississippi State, has been one of the most impressive performers in pre-season.
