HOUSTON, TX - OCTOBER 08: J.J. Watt #99 of the Houston Texans is helped off the field after being injured in the first quarter against the Kansas City Chi

Houston Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt broke his left leg early on in their defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.

The Texans announced that Watt had sustained a tibial plateau fracture while being blocked midway through the first quarter of the game.

Watt fell to the ground and remained on his hands and knees for a couple of minutes while trainers checked on him. He was then helped to his feet and looked to be in a lot of pain and didn't appear to be able to put any weight on the leg as he was helped off the field by two Texans officials.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year returned this season after missing the last 13 games of last season following a second back surgery.
