The Patriots (3-2), who had allowed a league-high average of 456 yards in its first four games of the season, held on to beat the Buccaneers (2-2), whose kicker Nick Folk missed three field goal attempts.

Folk failed to convert from 56, 49 and 31 yards out and has made only one field goal in his last six attempts.

Tampa Bay rallied in the fourth quarter as Jameis Winston's 18-yard touchdown pass to tight end Cameron Brate with just over two minutes remaining took the team to within two points of New England.

But, the Buccaneers failed with their onside kick, and the Patriots then added to their lead with Stephen Gostkowski's fourth field goal of the night, from 48 yards out, with 70 seconds remaining.

Tampa Bay had one final opportunity, driving down to the New England 19-yard line with three seconds remaining before Winston threw an incompletion near the goal line on the game's final play.

The Patriots swiftly regained their lead, one they would not relinquish, thanks to Tom Brady's five-yard TD pass to Chris Hogan. Gostkowski then tacked on a 23-yard field goal with 40 seconds remaining in the first half.

Playing without injured tight end Rob Gronkowski (thigh), Brady completed 30 of 40 passes for 303 yards with one touchdown, and one interception - his first of the season.

The win is Brady's 186th in the regular-season as a starter, tying Brett Favre and Peyton Manning for the most by a quarterback in NFL history.
