Neil Reynolds says Cleveland Browns could regret draft trade

Sky Sports NFL expert Neil Reynolds believes that the Cleveland Browns' decision not to select quarterback Carson Wentz could cost them this season.

The Browns received five picks in exchange for the second overall, which the Philadelphia Eagles used to acquire Wentz, who has led the team to successive victories over the Baltimore Ravens and the Browns.

In contrast, the Browns have lost their opening two matches in which both starting quarterbacks have been injured. Cleveland will start third choice Cody Kessler against Miami on Sunday, their fifth QB in as many games.

On the 'Inside the Huddle' podcast, Reynolds broke down the decision to trade away the pick and reflected that it could prove to be a defining factor in judging new head coach Hue Jackson's success.

"As a general manager you are judged on the picks that you make, and whether they pan out, but also the picks that you don't make.

"For whatever reason, the Browns did not want Carson Wentz and they traded away that opportunity to get him. Now they're preparing to play with Cody Kessler at quarterback."

Speaking with coach Jeff Rhinebold, Reynolds agreed that despite coming from a smaller programme at North Dakota State, Wentz showed all the makings of an NFL quarterback. He was originally due to sit out the year, before Sam Bradford was traded to the Minnesota Vikings, throwing Wentz into the starting role.

After a 2-0 start and drawing positive reviews from coaches and analysts, Reynolds believes Cleveland may rue their decision to trade the pick to Philadelphia.

"North Dakota State run a pro-ready system, and Wentz looks to have all the tools to succeed in the NFL. (Against Chicago) Wentz looked like the veteran and Jay Cutler looked like the rookie.

"I wonder if as the season goes on, whether that decision becomes a talking point, not just in Philadelphia but in Cleveland."
