Report on a dramatic day of semi-final action

After another exciting domestic season and two dramatic semi-finals last Saturday, it is the top two in the regular season standings that will contest the season's showpiece at London's Copper Box Arena.

Thunder finished top of the table, losing just once all season while it was defending champions Storm who edged out Hertfordshire Mavericks and Team Bath on points difference to claim second spot.

Last weekend Manchester withstood a late flurry from Team Bath to seal their place in the final with Storm pipping Mavericks in a thrilling semi-final at Surrey Sports Park to set up a repeat of the dramatic 2014 final.

Worcester University Arena was the venue when Storm entered the final as favourites having been unbeaten all season - but Helen Housby, then just 19, stepped up to hit the winning goal in the last seconds of the match to seal a dramatic second Superleague title for Thunder.

Last weekend's vanquished semi-final opponents will contest the 3rd and 4th place play-off earlier in the day but it is the Grand Final that is the mouthwatering prospect.

Dan Ryan's team have set the standard with their only defeat coming against Storm in Manchester in February and they will be gunning for revenge against a Surrey team who finished the season strongly and shown the stomach for a fight by winning close physical contests already this season.
