Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa begin Quad Series

England face New Zealand and South Africa take on Australia as netball's Quad Series gets underway on Sky Sports on Saturday morning.

All four nations reached the semi-finals of last year's World Cup and will battle it out over six matches in seven days across Australia and New Zealand to be crowned the inaugural winners of the competition.

The long-term ambition is success at the 2019 World Cup and the upcoming tournament will give the teams a chance to assess some of their emerging talent and try out new combinations.

Some of the game's biggest names are in action including England's Jade Clarke, Joanne Harten and Helen Housby, Australia's Sharni Layton and Clare McMeniman, New Zealand's Laura Langman and Kayla Cullen and South Africa's Bongiwe Msomi and Karla Mostert.

The Aussie Diamonds are the number one ranked nation in the world and under Lisa Alexander they will be favourites to add to the World Cup they won 58-55 in Sydney in August last year, but they were pushed all the way in a thrilling final by New Zealand.

What can we expect from this summer's series

Those two will meet in the final match of the tournament next Sunday, while England finish against South Africa on the same day - both matches take place at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, and you'll be able to see the thrilling conclusion on the brand new channel Sky Sports Mix.

Australia's match against New Zealand in Auckland will kick off the tournament, live on Sky Sports 3 from 4am.

England are currently ranked third in the world and will start the series against the Silver Ferns on Saturday morning, which is live on Sky Sports 3 from 6am and will be repeated on Monday at 7.30pm on the same channel.

The other two matches take place on Wednesday with England against Australia in Adelaide and New Zealand against South Africa.

Former England star picks out the players to watch in the Quad Series

For Tracey Neville's England it is a chance to test her talented group of youngsters against the best in the world while Jo Harten, Jade Clarke, Serena Guthrie and Geva Mentor all play their netball in the ANZ Championship and are part of the squad.

Many of the Australian and New Zealand players will be at the end of a hugely competitive ANZ Championship which finished in July, while England's squad are just beginning pre-season preparations so it promises to be a well-matched and competitive tournament.
