LeBron James' 18-year-old son Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest while training at the University of Southern California (USC) on Monday, but is now said to be in a stable condition.
A family spokesperson said on Tuesday: "Yesterday while practising Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff were able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital.
"He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.
"LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes."
NBA players such as Trae Young and Jalen Brunson have tweeted their support and prayers for James.
On Thursday, LeBron James tweeted: "I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers. We feel you and I'm so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we're ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!"
He concluded his message with the hashtag "JamesGang," his nickname for the tightknit family unit built around their three children by James and his wife, Savannah.
Bronny James announced in May that he would play college basketball for the Trojans. He was one of the top high school prospects in the country.
A 6'3" combo guard, Bronny James is the fifth-ranked player at his position and the No. 22 overall in the Class of 2023 by the 247Sports composite. He was a McDonald's All-American.
LeBron James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, has said he'd like to play at least one season in the NBA with Bronny, the oldest of the James' three children. Bronny will be eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft.
Bronny was the second high-profile USC basketball recruit to go into cardiac arrest in the last year. Vincent Iwuchuwku also was stricken during a workout last July, but the 7-foot-1 center returned to the court six months later, eventually appearing in 14 games for the Trojans as a freshman.
