Kevin Durant picked up most of the slack in Stephen Curry's absence in a narrow Saturday night victory for the Golden State Warriors.
Curry missed his ninth straight game with a groin injury and his absence was almost felt as the Warriors trailed the Sacramento Kings going into the closing minutes.
But Durant, who finished the game with a season-high 44 points, and Klay Thompson combined to see them to a 117-116 victory.
He made 13 of his 26 shots from the floor, and was almost perfect from the free-throw line, hitting 16 of 17 attempts.
"Kevin was just amazing," Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said. "There were so many possessions that we were just dead in the water, and he bailed us out late."
But it was one of Durant's misses that proved key in securing victory for Golden State, with Thompson claiming the vital offensive rebound on that and again on his own missed floater to score the two points that saw them home.
The Warriors are now 14-7, top of the Western Conference by a half-game, and riding a two-game win streak after a recent - very rare - run of four successive defeats.
