Team Sky's Egan Bernal took overall victory at the Tour of California as Fernando Gaviria of Quick-Step Floors won the final stage in Sacramento.

The 90.7 mile stage around Sacramento came down to a sprint finish between Gaveria of Quick-Step Floors and Max Walscheid of Team Sunweb.

Walscheid thought he had clinched the stage, raising his arm in celebration, but a photo-finish proved Gaveria had crossed the line first, to win his third stage of the Tour.

He claimed the green jersey for best sprinter but, having won Friday's mountain stage, Bernal safely finished in the main group to take the overall honours, and Team Sky also topped the team classification.

Britain's Adam Yates could not pull back the two seconds he needed to secure a podium spot.

Yates was within touching distance of Daniel Martinez going into stage seven, but the bunch sprint ensured there were no movers at the top of the general classification.
