Olivier Niggli has been appointed as the next director general of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Niggli will take up the role in June, when the 13-year tenure of New Zealander David Howman comes to an end.

The organisation's executive committee decided on the appointment at a meeting in Colorado Springs.

Switzerland-based Niggli, currently serving as WADA's chief operating officer and general counsel, also served as the organisation's legal director and was chief financial officer from 2001 to 2011.

The committee are also expected to discuss the issue of Russia after the IAAF provisionally suspended the All-Russia Athletic Federation (ARAF) as a member with immediate effect last week.
