Rory McIlroy has praised the knowledge of The Open fans ahead of his bid for a fifth major title at Royal Troon.
McIlroy missed last year's championship through injury but is hoping to have found form in time to contend this time around, having finished third in his last start at the Open de France.
A combined total of 237,024 made it through the gates over the course of the week at St Andrews last year as Zach Johnson claimed victory, with similar numbers expected in South Ayrshire this time around.
The world No 4 was full of praise of the Scottish spectators and has been explaining why an Open crowd is so unique compared to any other tournament.
