Ahead of The 145th Open, Rory McIlroy has been describing why the tournament is so special and different to any other on the golfing calendar.
The world No 4 heads to Royal Troon looking to build on his tied-third finish at the Open de France, with McIlroy having fond memories of his previous appearances at golf's oldest major.
McIlroy missed last year's tournament due to injury, but claimed a two-shot win in his last Open appearance in 2014.
The Open Championships are symbolised by challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain on links courses, with some of the sport's most memorable moments coming from the tournament over the years.
