Darren Clarke's European side are chasing a record fourth consecutive Ryder Cup success at Hazeltine, looking to follow on from Paul McGinley guiding Europe to victory in 2014.
The Irishman had been referred to by Rory McIlroy as "the perfect captain" for the way he led Europe to a 16.5-11.5 victory at Gleneagles, their third consecutive win and a seventh triumph in eight tournaments.
McGinley had learnt from the experiences of featuring in three winning Ryder Cup teams, as well as his time as a vice-captain during the victories at Celtic Manor in 2010 and Medinah in 2012.
The 49-year-old, who is part of Sky Sports' commentary team at Hazeltine this week, has been describing how he dealt with the pressures of Ryder Cup week and came up with a unique analogy to sum up his experience.
