Justin Thomas required luck and patience as he claimed a remarkable birdie on the 10th hole in the final round of the PGA Championship.
The 24-year-old American will have been in a confident mood as he stood on the tee after holing a 30-foot birdie putt at the ninth hole at Quail Hollow.
He hooked his drive at the 592-yard par five, though, and the ball was heading into trouble until it struck a tree full on and bounced back into the centre of the fairway.
Thomas took advantage of his stroke of good fortune and set himself up for a birdie with an eight-foot putt.
The putt went slightly left and was left hanging on the edge of the hole, but Thomas was happy to let gravity do its stuff and the ball toppled into the hole after a wait of around 15 seconds.
The birdie took Thomas to seven under for the tournament and within one shot of the lead at the time, but he went on to add two further birdies on the back nine to clinch his first major success.
