Louis Oosthuizen came within inches of his third hole in one in a major this season as the first day of the PGA Championship at Baltusrol featured a number of sublime shots from the best players in the world.
Oosthuizen aced the 16th on the final day of the Masters and celebrated another hole in one in the first round of The Open at Royal Troon, and his tee shot to the short ninth in New Jersey was agonisingly close to a remarkable hat-trick.
Russell Knox's superb iron to the same hole came even closer to finding the cup, while Open champion Henrik Stenson and two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson also displayed their supreme iron skills in the final major of the year.
Scott Piercy's 55-foot birdie was the longest putt of the day, and Danny Willett, Oosthuizen and Andrew 'Beef' Johnston also holed from distance.
And Martin Kaymer almost made the rarest of birds, his second to the par-five 18th grazing the edge of the hole for what could have been a spectacular albatross for the 2010 champion.
